Here’s the setup, kept spoiler-free since I want you to experience the rest yourself. The story follows Alice, who has just become a widow after losing her husband in a car accident. I have to start here because it’s what stuck with me the most, walking out of the theater. The Deadites are, hands down, the best characters in this film. It sounds strange saying that about the demons in a horror movie, but in Evil Dead, it just makes sense.
Most movies where a demon or group of demons torments people wouldn’t get away with me calling the demons the highlight. But these Deadites feel different from generic horror demons. They’re entities of a completely different type. They’re rotten to the core, they love being rotten, and they do it with a huge smile on their face the entire time. I caught myself grinning right along with them more than once. It’s infectious to watch. There’s no single standout performance among them, the way there was in the last movie, but as a collective, they carried the entertainment value of the entire film for me.

The humor. Genuinely funny, well-timed, and the most this franchise has leaned into comedy since Army of Darkness.
