Top 10 Worst Movies of 2025: 2025 was quite a year for movies. While I already shared my top 10 favorite films of the year, the flipside of that coin is my list of the worst movies of 2025. Honestly, there are way more disappointments than standouts, and I’ve realized over the years that hating on bad movies can be just as entertaining as celebrating the good ones. So, let’s dive into the Top 10 Worst Movies of 2025.
Table of Contents
Toggle10. Karate Kid Legends

Release Date: May 30, 2025
Director: Jonathan Entwistle
Cast: Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio, Ben Wang.
IMDb / Rotten Tomatoes: 6.3 / 59%
Ah, Karate Kid: Legends. This one had potential. Riding the Cobra Kai wave, it felt like a fresh take at first, especially the subplot where Li (Ben Wang) has to train his friend’s dad, a washed-up boxer (Joshua Jackson), in kung fu. But the execution was messy. It tries too hard to blend the gritty realism of Cobra Kai with the family-friendly vibe of the 2010 remake, and it lands awkwardly in the middle. It’s not quite canon, it’s not quite a reboot, and honestly, despite the nostalgia bait, it’s better left forgotten.
9. Tron Aries

Release Date: October 10, 2025.
Director: Joachim Rønning
Cast: Jared Leto, Jeff Bridges, Greta Lee, and Evan Peters
IMDb / Rotten Tomatoes: 6.3/ 51%
Tron: Ares was meant to tap into nostalgia, but it missed the mark completely. Sure, the visuals were decent, and the Daft Punk-less soundtrack tried its best, but the story is full of holes. Jared Leto plays Ares with an intensity that feels totally out of place, and even the return of Jeff Bridges couldn’t save a script that felt like it was written by a glitchy AI. If you loved Tron: Legacy, do yourself a favor and just rewatch that instead.
8. The Conjuring: Last Rites

Release Date: September 5, 2025.
Director: Michael Chaves
Cast: Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson.
IMDb / Rotten Tomatoes: 5.9 / 57%
The Conjuring franchise should have ended years ago. Last Rites tries to inject high-stakes family drama into the mix to wrap up the Warrens’ story, but it kills the quiet tension that made the originals terrifying. It’s loud, reliant on cheap jump scares, and oddly boring for a finale. Sorry, James Wan, but sometimes less really is more.
7. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

Release Date: December 5, 2025.
Director: Emma Tammi
Cast: Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Matthew Lillard
IMDb / Rotten Tomatoes: 4.3 / 15%
The game is legendary, but this sequel? Not so much. While the first movie had a certain campy charm, this one feels like a generic cash grab. Hutcherson seems like he’s sleepwalking through the role, and the animatronic scares have already lost their novelty. Unless you are a die-hard lore hunter, this is just generic horror schlock.
6. The Strangers: Chapter 2

Release Date: September 26, 2025.
Director: Renny Harlin
Cast: Madelaine Petsch, Gabriel Basso, and Ema Horvath.
IMDb / Rotten Tomatoes: 4.7 / 15%
The Strangers: Chapter 2 commits the cardinal sin of horror: it explains too much. The terror of the original came from the fact that the killers had no motive (“because you were home”). This movie tries to give them a backstory and depth that nobody asked for, completely ruining the mystique. A trilogy that really should have ended after the first one.
5. Jurassic World Rebirth

Release Date: July 2, 2025
Director: Gareth Edwards
Cast: Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey.
IMDb / Rotten Tomatoes: 5.9 / 51%
Rebirth had promise with Gareth Edwards at the helm, but it ended up as chaotic CGI mayhem. The cast is incredibly talented, but they are given nothing to do but run and scream lines that feel ripped from a Disney handbook. The “human-dino hybrid” plot rumors were thankfully false, but the actual plot, about weaponized raptors (again), makes zero sense. The magic of Jurassic Park is officially extinction-ready.
4. I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)

Release Date: July 18, 2025
Director: Jennifer Kaytin Robinson
Cast: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr
IMDb / Rotten Tomatoes: 4.6 / 38%
Penny-store Scream, that’s exactly what this is. It tries to cash in on the ‘90s slasher revival but fails miserably. The legacy characters feel shoehorned in, and the new cast is unlikable. It’s a cheap, rushed attempt to replicate a vibe that just doesn’t exist anymore.

3. Smurfs (2025)

Release Date: July 18, 2025
Director: Chris Miller
Cast: Rihanna, James Corden, John Goodman, Nick Offerman
IMDb / Rotten Tomatoes: 4.3 / 20%
We all know Smurfs movies have a low bar, but this one dug a tunnel underneath it. The musical numbers are cringeworthy, and the “multiverse” gimmick feels tired and forced. Even the kids in my theater seemed bored. If you’re still making Smurfs movies in 2025, please just stop.
2. Snow White (2025)

Release Date: March 21, 2025.
Director: Marc Webb
Cast: Rachel Zegle, Gal Gadot
IMDb / Rotten Tomatoes: 2.2 / 45%
Snow White tries to be everything to everyone and ends up pleasing no one. The visual effects for the “magical creatures” (the dwarf replacements) look like they came from a PS3 game, and the tone is all over the place. It tries to modernize the story but loses the heart of the fairytale in the process. It’s chaotic, soulless, and easily one of the biggest disasters of the year.
1. War of the Worlds (2025)

Release Date: July 30, 2025
Director: Rich Lee
Cast: Ice Cube, Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg, Iman Benson
IMDb / Rotten Tomatoes: 2.5 / 4%
The number one worst movie of 2025 goes to War of the Worlds. This “screenlife” version (filmed entirely on webcams and phones) was clearly a leftover pandemic project that should have stayed on the shelf. Seeing Ice Cube try to fight an alien invasion via a Zoom call is unintentionally hilarious, but mostly just sad. The acting is stiff, the tension is nonexistent, and the CGI looks like a screensaver. A film that had potential on paper but ended up a total mess.
There you have it, my top 10 worst movies of 2025. It’s a mix of failed sequels, uninspired horror, and franchise fatigue. What were your worst films of the year? Let me know in the comments, and maybe we can bond over the movies we hated together.
