Plot Overview

In Vettaiyan, Sharanya (played by Dushara Vijayan), a school teacher from Kanyakumari discovers a drug trade going on around her school. She uncovers the matter, and the police, led by encounter specialist Athiyan (Rajinikanth), take the case into their own hands. He swiftly delivers “justice” through an encounter, but Athiyan does not know that this is just the beginning of a scam that is far more sinister than a simple drug racket.

Shariya is murdered in a brutal manner, and the alleged culprit Guna escapes. The Chennai police and their commissioner arrive, and hand over the case to Athiyan.

But wait! There is another twist to the plot – human rights activist Judge Satyadev (Amitabh Bachchan) has been watching Athiyan’s every move, and the two come to blows over the right and wrong of the police encounter case. Can Athiyan justify his actions? Was Guna really guilty? The film keeps you guessing… or at least, it tries to.

Overall Verdict:

Vettaiyan is like ordering your favorite dish but realizing they forgot the extra spice! Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan deliver the star power, and the action is there for all the Rajini fans, but the story feels like a predictable rollercoaster that skips the loop-de-loops. You’ll love the visuals, bang to Anirudh’s background score, and cheer for the action scenes, but the movie stumbles when it tries to dive deep into its moral themes. It’s a mixed bag—worth watching for the legends on screen, but don’t expect to leave with your mind blown.

Vettaiyan is a film with a lot of potential, but it doesn’t quite hit the mark. Rajinikanth shines, as always, but the film around him stumbles. With a tighter script and better utilization of its star-studded cast, it could have been a gripping commentary on morality and justice.

FAQs

  1. Is Vettaiyan worth watching?
If you’re a Rajinikanth fan, definitely. For others, it’s a mixed bag, so manage your expectations.

Amitabh Bachchan’s scenes stand out, as does Anirudh’s music. Rajinikanth delivers as expected, but the story could have been stronger

3. How’s the second half of the movie?
The second half is where the film loses momentum. It becomes predictable and doesn’t pack the punch you’d expect from a thriller

4. Does the film tackle social issues?
Yes, but not as effectively as Jai Bhim. It touches on police encounters and the coaching industry but doesn’t fully explore these themes.
